Work Experience

Dr. Seema Kumar is an Artist-Designer with versatile work experience. She has industry experience in the fashion and apparel sector, working with established brands, reputed buying agencies, export houses, movies, and ad films. She then moved on to the higher education sector, teaching UG/PG level academics, research, and writing. Originally an Artist-Designer from India, she currently resides in the Greater Atlanta Area, Georgia, USA.

She has art and design education and work experience. Ph.D. (Design), Master of Design (M.Des.), Bachelor's Degree in Drawing and Painting (Hons.) and English; a state-level award-winning art student, she is passionate about art, design, and writing. She has been a state-level award-winning visual art student and is currently an independent Artist and freelance designer. She is a published author of poetry books and articles and is working on research publications. 

She started her career as a Designer in the fashion and apparel industry in Mumbai, India, after completing her postgraduation in Knitwear Design from NIFT, Mumbai. After action-packed years in the industry, she joined fashion/ apparel design institutes and taught drawing, illustration, art, design, merchandising, graphic, and vector illustration-related courses at graduate and postgraduate levels while pursuing her passion for art and design.   

Over the years, she gained experience in a diverse array of design and product development concepts, product categories, mediums, and design tools – in jobs, as well as a freelancer and entrepreneur. She has experience in both digital and manual mediums of art and design. Some of her key skills include drawing, painting, graphics for garments, graphic design for print, websites, illustration by hand, vector illustration, and digital image editing. Out of her curiosity to learn and upgrade her knowledge, she is exploring UX/ UI design. 

As a professional designer, she has successfully executed design, product development, and consultancy projects for export houses, buying houses, international design entrepreneurs, and NGOs; costume design for ad films and commercial films; and has a keen interest in research and writing. Her broader work experience includes managerial, entrepreneurial, and faculty positions, all of which also involved writing and people management. 

She taught art, drawing, design, illustration, world art, graphic art, and merchandising-related subjects as an Associate Professor at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), India, in the Department of Fashion Design (2013-2016). Some of her past employers are the Institute of Apparel Management (under the aegis of AEPC), Triburg Sportswear, Linmark International (HK) Ltd., Malwa Industries Ltd, Nufab India Ltd.
